Cartoons & Illustrations

Political expressions (cartoons and illustrations)

In a context where I could not spend long hours making paintings due to work pressures and travel, in mid-2000, I began drawing cartoons and illustrations. From the 1980s to 2000, the context of war and issues related to violence against women were the primary and direct concerns of my paintings. After this, cartoons became the tool through which I asked questions about the socio-economic structures that create hierarchies; the resultant exploitation of women and of nature; the hypocrisies that persist from families to the world at large; and the illusions that are constructed in the name of tradition. I see these cartoons as my artistic questioning and critique of all the political structures that surround me.
