Vasuki Jeyasankar

Vasuki Jeyasankar (1966) is a feminist activist and artist from the north of Sri Lanka. She is a student of
Ms. M. P. R. Sinnappu and Mr. A. Mark.

Her work has been displayed in exhibitions since 1988. Her first solo exhibition in 1989 was organized by Alliance Francaise de Jaffna. Since then she has been exhibiting her works at various galleries and fora in Sri Lanka and abroad.

As an artist she combines her sustained interest and skill in the creative arts with her passion and commitment to issues of gender, human rights and social justice. Along with her individual artistic expressions she works with the
women affected by war and violence to express themselves through collective art-making.

She was a student of Vembadi Girls High School, Jaffna and went on to graduate with a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Jaffna. She completed a Masters degree in Human Rights and Democratization
at the University of Sydney.

She received the Bunka Award from the Japan – Sri Lanka Friendship Fund in 2001.
