Women and Nature

 

The women drawn with lines and colours

 

Women’s ability to survive enormous loss and continue their life and keep alive all those around them – people and other beings- I began to draw the music, movement and love that is within every woman.

In 1999, I attended a one-month feminist course (SANGAT) in Bangladesh and stayed with other South Asian women. Every day, before and after classes we danced to feminist songs… It is here that my hands began to draw the lines that would make up these women. From that day to now, the strength and ability that I see within many women who journey together, struggling for equality and social change, the colours that they are filled with, the lines that emerge from them and envelope the world around them – they have become my drawings.
